Complete with interactive tutorials and useful information, this guide should answer most of your questions about computing at B-W. File Sharing: Most audio and video file sharing programs commonly used can act as portals for malware threats. Many of these programs are set up to obtain confidential information stored on your computer (which can be shared with third parties), introduce viruses to your computer, or cause irretrievable loss of data. Beyond that risk, sharing files is illegal and you can be prosecuted. You are taking serious risk in downloading or utilizing file sharing programs.
-
Malware Threats (viruses, adware, spyware, etc.): As a resident student, you are required to have Symantec Antivirus installed on your computer. This is provided to you FREE by B-W. The latest version (10.1.5.5000) can be downloaded (on-campus only) at http://virus.bw.edu. This version works with Windows 2000, XP, Vista, and Mac OS. If you have an older version of this product installed on your computer, you can simply install the current version over your existing program. However, if you have any other antivirus program installed (e.g., McAfee, AVG, Norton, etc.), you MUST uninstall your existing antivirus software BEFORE attempting to install the Symantec Antivirus.
If you have any problems with or questions about the installation of Symantec Antivirus, please contact the HelpDesk at (440) 826-7000.
