Welcome to B-W ResNet!
- Wireless Access (802.11 a/b/g): All academic buildings and residence halls (as well as large common outdoor areas) are configured for wireless access. You must configure your computer’s wireless connection for access to the student wireless network. For configuration instructions, please go to http://wireless.bw.edu. If you have difficulty, you can bring your laptop to the IT HelpDesk (20 Beech Street) for assistance. There is no fee for this service.
- File Sharing: Most audio and video file sharing programs commonly used can act as portals for malware threats. Many of these programs are set up to obtain confidential information stored on your computer (which can then be shared with third parties), introduce viruses to your computer, or cause irretrievable loss of data. Beyond that risk, sharing files is illegal and you can be prosecuted. You are taking serious risk in downloading or utilizing file sharing programs, which is why B-W highly recommends the removal of such software from your computer.
- Malware Threats (viruses, adware, spyware, etc.): As a resident student, you are required to have Symantec EndPoint Protection installed on your computer. This software is provided to you FREE by B-W. The most recent version for the Windows XP and Vista operating systems can be downloaded (on-campus only) at http://virus.bw.edu. If you already have another antivirus program installed on your coputer (e.g., McAfee, AVG, Norton, etc.), you MUST uninstall your existing antivirus software BEFORE attempting to install Symantec EndPoint Protection. Please Note: If you own a Macintosh computer, you will need to obtain a copy of the Interactive Guide to Student Computing CD in order to install Symantec EndPoint Protection.
